Twin Storms

Standing with back to the past, she watches
two storms in direct line with each other.
Will she still be standing when they collide?

Lost in the distant thunder rumbling
through her body, she feels the lightning strike
before it lights up the sky. Eyes wide, she
catches a glimpse of rain headed toward where
she stands mesmerized – she memorizes
images she can’t lose without losing
pieces of herself. When the flood opens
above, she closes her eyes, face lifted
to the shower, and releases pent-up
energies roiling inside.  One long, loud
scream echoes with the thunder and swallows
the lightning; it shines out through fingertips
and a brilliant smile, offers welcome to
the future – washed clean and ready for her.
