Yellow Leaves

A slight breeze ruffles yellow leaves just out
of reach. Their contrast beautiful against
the remaining green of summer colors
untouched by fall’s nip in the air. Captured
in pixels splayed on a screen, they remind
her of an afternoon in the park, time
spent leaning against a tree staring down
at the water, wondering about life.

Younger then than now, she was
just beyond the edge of ready, waiting
for the right moment – the right split second,
when she would know which way was the right way.

With a word and smile he pulls her back
from somewhere between green and yellow leaves.
